Net Optics Adds USB Power to 10/100BaseT Teeny Tap™

Compact Tap Designed for Portability Gives Network Managers USB Power Option

SUNNYVALE, CA — November 22, 2006.  Net Optics latest version of the 10/100BaseT Teeny Tap, a test access port for network managers on the go, now includes both USB and DC power options for increased flexibility. The USB connection replaces one of the DC power outlets, making the redundant power option more versatile and easier to use with laptop computers. Teeny Tap can now be powered from a DC wall outlet, any USB connection, or redundantly powered from both USB and DC. Power LEDs on the front of the Tap indicate the current power source.

The palm-sized Teeny Tap has all the great features of Net Optics’ classic 10/100BaseT Tap, including Zero Delay™, ensuring zero impact on network traffic while maintaining uninterrupted access for monitoring and security devices. All network and monitoring cables necessary for plug-and-play deployment are included with a convenient Teeny Tap carrying case.

The Teeny Tap’s Zero Delay technology ensures that absolutely no packets are dropped if the Tap loses power. If power is lost to other 10/100 Taps, the connected devices may introduce delays as they detect the power loss and try to re-establish their link. Net Optics’ engineering breakthrough ensures that any loss of power to the Tap is transparent to the network, and does not affect the flow of traffic through the Tap—eliminating packet delay and loss as potential security concerns.

Full-duplex monitoring is a snap when each side of the signal is sent to a separate NIC on the monitoring device. The Teeny Tap does not have an IP address so that monitoring devices connected to the Teeny Tap are isolated from the network and secure from attacks. However, the monitoring device still sees all full-duplex traffic, including Layer 1 and Layer 2 errors.  The 10/100BaseT Teeny Tap is also compatible with Power-over-Ethernet (POE) applications. While offering a host of unique features, Net Optics 10/100BaseT Teeny Taps remain fully IEEE compliant.
